Laura Linney, best known for her strong but fragile characters, is one of the most well-known American actors of today. Linney was born to a single, unmarried mother who worked as a nursing assistant. She became interested in the theatre during time spent in the summer by her famous father. She studied acting through Brown University, and later in Juilliard School. After two years of her graduation she started the beginning of her Broadway career. The following year, she began her career she was on television. In the years since she's been in many TV productions, films and stage plays. She has been nominated for three Oscar Awards, five Tony Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and has won numerous awards throughout her career. Her nominations include five Tony Awards and three Oscar Award nominations. However, despite her recognitions and awards, theater is her main interest and she is determined to play on stage and screen.
